Air Fryer Green Tomatoes

I love fried green tomatoes, but never made them at home until this summer. I was pleased to find that the air fryer version is easy and makes for super simple clean up. They’re the perfect snack, or appetizer, and the dipping sauces you could explore are endless! The tomato season in Minnesota is approximately 45 minutes, so enjoy them as soon as the season starts!

ingredients

  • 3 green tomatoes, washed, sliced into 1/4’’ rounds

  • Salt + pepper

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

  • 2 eggs, beaten

  • 1 cup Panko bread crumbs

  • A few sprays of oil (I use avocado oil spray)

instructions

  1. Preheat air fryer to 375 degrees F.

  2. Pat both sides of tomato slices dry with paper towel. Then, season generously with salt and pepper.

  3. Create a lineup of flour, egg, and Panko crumbs in shallow bowls. Prepare each tomato slice by coating tomatoes in flour, then egg, and finally Panko crumbs.

  4. Mist the basket of your air fryer with oil. Place the tomato slices in the basket in a single layer and mist oil over the top of the slices.

  5. Air fry the tomatoes for 7 minutes, flip them, add a spray of oil, and fry for an additional 5 minutes.

  6. Serve immediately. I like to eat mine with a bit of marinara sauce and shreds of basil, but you can dip these tomatoes in whatever sounds good (remoulade, horseradish sauce, ranch, mustard, etc. are all options!).
